Help: my profile
What is my profile page?
Your profile is created for you when you first log on to the site. You can customise your profile by adding a bio and your top six favourite books (hard, we know). The idea of your profile page is to share a little about yourself and your bookish loves so people who share your interests can read your work and find new books to read – maybe even collaborate with you one day. You can also share your profile with bookish friends you know in IRL.
(It’s important to remember your profile is the only thing you create on the site which is always public, so remember not to include any personal information you wouldn’t usually share online. Never include your full name, phone number, email or date of birth on your profile.)
You can get to your profile wherever you are on the site by clicking on the icon next to your name in the dropdown menu. If you’re new, it will be a paw print like the one below.
The paw print is cute and everything, but let’s look at how to add a picture of your own.
How do I change my profile?
To change your profile, click on your profile icon in the dropdown menu at the top right-hand side of the page (image above). You’ll then see something like this:
When you click on Edit profile, you’ll see the edit profile page. This is where you can write a bio. Add a few words about yourself or leave it blank – it’s up to you.
How do I change my profile image?
Click on Select file to upload a file to be your new profile image. The file needs to be a JPEG or PNG. Square images work best.
How do I change my profile banner?
Click on Select file to upload a long, thin image to be your banner. Again, it needs to be a JPEG or PNG file. After you’ve saved your changes, have a look to make sure it looks the way you want it to. Remember you can change your page banner and profile image anytime.
How do I add my favourite books?
However hard this may seem, don’t overthink it. Choose the first six books that come into your head. You can change this list anytime and a series counts as one book so that helps! (Here’s some advice on how to pick your favourite books if you’re stuck.)
To choose your books, start typing book titles in the box and titles will appear for you to choose from. Try typing in the word ‘series’ if you can’t choose your favourite Harry Potter book…
And always remember to click on Save when you’re done!
Why does a list of blogs appear on my profile page?
When you create a blog, the blog title appears under Blogs I write for. When it’s your blog, you’ll see the word Owner on the right-hand side. If you’re a contributor, the same area will be blank. If a blog is private, it will have the word ‘private’ beside the title in brackets. You can’t edit this information – it’s generated by the site.
Your profile also shows how many posts you’ve written on the site and how many comments you have on all of your blogs.
Now you’ve set up your profile page, here are some other things to try:
